The iron mines, located in the village of Carvalhal, in Torre de Moncorvo, were in industrial exploitation from 1951 to 1985. However, their exploitation dates back to the Romam period. From the intensive work carried out in the 19th century, large sections of galleries are also visible, in addition to open-air exploration and blasting benches, and installations to support the mine's work.

Associated with the mines, at the time, a neighborhood was created with several houses at the foot of the Serra do Reboredo. Currently, this neighborhood is only inhabited by a very small number of families. This complex is a kind of museum where you can observe the remains that are abandoned there.
